Informations
An invention can be protected in its first stage when it is still an idea. You do not need a prototype before you begin the process of protecting your idea. This is done with the 3 following steps.
1 – Evaluation
Our engineer will study your invention and draft a report of approximately 15 pages which include his comments, suggestions and recommendations. The objective of the evaluation is to spare you the time and expense involved in developing an idea which is not feasible and cannot be commercialized.
Cost: $260 + taxes
2 – Patent Search
This search is vital to verify if your invention is truly a novelty or if, on the contrary, it already exists and has been patented. Our agent will give you a full report of his search including the list of patents pertinent to your invention. There are two types of patent search available to you: a patent search in the United States only, where approximately 70% of patents all over the world are registered, or an international patent search.
American patent search: $750 + taxes
International patent search: $1150 + taxes
3 – Provisional Patent
The provisional patent grants to his holder a priority date valid for 12 months in 145 industrialized countries during which time you can file for an official patent. With a provisional patent in hand you can reveal your invention, sell it, develop it or find partners or potential investors.
